Northern Grain Marketing would like to thank everyone for attending our marketing meetings this past week. Anyone wishing to sign up for our average price program should contact us by Tuesday of next week.
In a week that saw some big swings in both futures price and basis levels we closed the week down about 13 cents on nearby corn futures and 3 1/2 cents on nearby bean futures, We lost closer to 20 cents on December corn futures and gained a few cents on November beans. We can expect some continued volatility in the futures markets with some uncertainty still lingering on where the planted acres will come in on the USDA report the end of March. In addition, the weather related problems in South America will add fuel to the fire. One thing we did learn at our meetings is the potential to increase the carryout for next year exists and we could see futures levels that we haven't traded at in a while. One should take advantage of the volatility ahead of planting to lock in some newcrop sales.
Thursday will feature a mix of light rain and snow in the northern and central Midwest, with snow focused on Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Dakotas, and rain from Iowa east to Indiana. » More DTN Weather Commentary
